The Chanticleer Society is a worldwide organization of cocktail enthusiasts. As our members travel in far flung parts of the globe, they will often want to try to find a cocktail bar to go to where they can have a truely memorable experience. They want to be in the presence of bartenders who take pride in their craft and customers who recognize this.
To aid our members during their travels, we will be using our membership to build up a list of those bars and cocktail lounges around the world which represent the best establishments, with the highest regard to the craft of the cocktail.
Our list is specifically not attempting to list and rate every single bar in the country (or world). Instead it will focus on listing only those bars which could be considered as coming "highly recommended" for a visit by a cocktail enthusiast when they find themselves in the area for a couple of days.
There will be many fine bars which won't be listed here, just because your favorite bar isn't on the list, doesn't mean it is a "bad bar", it just means it doesn't fit the criteria we are trying to establish. Just as a fabulous Reisling shouldn't feel slighted by not being in a list of "Wines that go great with Steak".
There aren't any hard and fast rules which define what it means to be "highly recommended". But there will be certain things which should be expected of bars which are listed. At their heat, they should be bars which understand that the cocktail is a form of cuisine, one that requires a level of craftsmanship and respect in order to be properly prepared. The bartenders understand their role as being a "chef" of this liquid cuisine, and they take pride in their role. This means using quality ingredients, proper methods, as well as a firm foundational grasp of the classics and the role they play in the modern cocktail scene.
Any member of the Chanticleer Society can submit a bar they have personally visited to the list. They will fill out specific details about the bar, which will include information about it's location, its overall style/approach, as well as other specifics which might help somebody better understand what sort of establishment it is. We are also requesting that members don't submit bars which they own, or are otherwise directly associated with.
Our main list will list the establishments in a "most recently added" order. To view the listing in a geographically organized manner, we also provide a map view, which will better allow you to see which bars and lounges are near where you will be traveling.
Clicking on a listing will take you to a detail page, where you can see additional information about that particular establishment. Here you can get the contact information, website (if they have one), as well as details and information we hope will help you understand what type of bar or cocktail lounge this is, and if it will suit you particular needs. There will also be a link to a discussion thread where you can post questions about this particular establishment, as well as share your thoughts and experiences.
