Dark and elegant, this is a true speakeasy. The music evokes the Prohibition era, and the cocktails are top notch. The bartenders are all expert mixologists. This is one of my favorite bars in the world.

In true speakeasy style, there is no sign here, only a barrel attached to the wall above the door. There is usually a line beneath that barrel, but it is well worth the wait. Once inside, the bartender will interview you regarding preferences. After a minute or so, he (or she) will suggest a drink that matches your tastes, and proceed to expertly craft it. Everything here is top-notch-- the spirits, the implements, and most of all the techniques. I've found precious few bars like this in my travels, and am always happy when I descend the stairs into the darkness that is Single Barrel.
