I received my first bottle of Creme de Violette the other day and I just tried my hand at an Aviation. I have never seen a photo of an Aviation using Creme de Violette. I used 2 oz. Gin, 1/2 oz Marashino liqueur, 1/4 oz Creme de Violette and 1/4 oz fresh lemon juice. I used a brandied cherry as the garnish.

Here is a photo:  Aviation

What are your thoughts on the color / ratio?

That's pretty much the way I make them. Hard to discern the color when you've got it on such a dark surface. Mine have a distinct violet gray hue.

I think the most import factor is taste, not color.

I enjoyed the flavor. I think the Creme de Violette brought more of the maraschino cherry flavor out. It was a very tasty cocktail.

Come on.

You're just teasing us with another picture of that wicked cool folding bar, aren't you.

That was a really nice job with the video.  You're a natural behind the camera!

I am going to try and order a bottle of Creme de Violette online, as I have not been able to find it locally.  Perhaps, now that you have a big bottle of it, you can try some other cocktails that utilize this ingredient and make more videos!  I would watch!  I've found that whenever I get a new ingredient, it helps to explore a number of things you can do with it, so that it doesn't become a "one drink" ingredient that ends up sitting on the shelf.  That's what I'm trying to do with St. Germain right now.

Just one thing...  there was 19 seconds of shaking and 9 seconds of struggling to get the lid off the shaker!

Stick out tongue

LOL, I guess I need to work on editing video footage. When that shaker gets ice cold it can be very difficult to open!
