Could anyone recommend some good bars in Hong Kong and/or Cape Town? I'm after a bling-y one and a more under the radar one for each. cheers Alice

Dear A, am no good for Cape Town other than the Cape Grace Hotel.

As for Wrong Kong tho...

M bar at the Mandarin Oriental or MO Bar at the Mandarin Landmark, Felix at the Penninsula or The Armani Bar are all pretty flash.

Feather Boa probably fits your under the radar.

Hi Alice

In Cape Town, Asoka http://www.asokabar.co.za/ in Kloof Street is a must. Great cocktails, (They would definitely pass Robert's Old Fashioned test!) nice selection of spirits and a nice atmosphere. Not exactly hidden but would probably fit more into your under the radar category. As for more blingy I'd probably say try places like Chevelle, Caprice or even the new One and Only Hotel on the Waterfront...haven't actually been there but heard good things about Maze-the new Gordon Ramsay restaurant there.

Heartily recommend Dragon-i in HK and the bar at the Mount Nelson hotel in Cape Town, plus Cape Town's Beluga restaurant for when you're off the clock.

been a while since I was in Hong Kong but for under the radar, Gecko was great.  Imagine Ernest Hemingway's living room with Janis Joplin playing the piano and William Burroughs waxing lyrical in the corner.  Just off Pottinger Street down a little alleyway opposite a bar called Soda (if that's still there)
