Whether you have loved it or not—I certainly have—Pegu is undeniably a singular and broadly-influential institution. This is another one of those opportunities to reflect upon how far we’ve come with this cocktail revival. I intend to do just that over a French Pearl, or a Fitty Fitty, or an Intro to Aperol, or a Kill-Devil, or a …

Me and my family will be in Rome the first week of August, and I was wondering where to go. I remember that the last time I went to Rome I went to Harry's Bar in Veneto St. the Excelsior Hotel, and the Hotel D'Inghilterra as I had read that Hemingway and Liszt had stayed there. Those places were fine, expensive but fine. I would love to hear any other recomendations though. We will be staying near the Vatican.

Thanks in advance!

Review: A21 Cocktail Lounge

While the name might seem a little gruff, the interior is definately classy, with marble floors, elegant booths, and a lovely and massive marble-topped bar. Entering the Tar Pit you will feel like you are walking into one of the classic Hollywood bars of the 40's.
The drinks are all (for the most part) $12, and a wonderful collection of small-pate food items at $10 each. This flat pricing scheme includes the wine as well, with each selling for $38 a bottle.

Seeking other city-specific cocktail bar bloggers

hi everyone...

I'm not positive this is the right forum to put this in, but I'm looking to create a list of people who have blogs like mine in any other cities. i.e.: blogs that cover only reviews of cocktail bars and are specific to the blogger's city.

I also get the question "Where should I drink when I go to..." a lot, too. And, for many cities, I've got my own favorites, but I'd like to compile something more extensive as a blog roll. I know we've got plenty of blog rolls all around, but I'm talking just for city-specific bar reviews, which seems slightlly different than what's going on in this forum. (I see there are reviews, but I'm looking for a list of "experts" in each city where you can go to one spot and find out where they are drinking) Of course, I'll be happy to share the list here once I get it together.

The reason I want city-specific bloggers is that people who blog about cocktail bars all over the world, end up blogging on random bars (often good ones...) but I want something more comprehensive for each city.

So, if it doesn't feel like I'm hijacking this forum, can you send me a message if you have a similar blog or share info on any that you know of?

Thanks!

All in all, I'd give the drinks a 7 out of 10, the service a 7.5 out of ten, and the atmosphere a 8.5-9 out of 10. Definitely worth a stop by.

Review: Salon 39

Review: Salon 39

vordruffsvej 39

copenhagen, none none

denmark

(click to view on master map)

website: www.salon39.dk

CASUAL - $$$$$ - EAT -

Classic bar with food.

Review: The Tasting Kitchen

Review: The Tasting Kitchen

1633 Abbot Kinney Blvd.

Venice, CA 90291

USA

(click to view on master map)

website: http://www.thetastingkitchen.com/

phone: 310-392-6644

MODERN - $$$$ - EAT -

Modern restaurant / bar with a nod to the classics. Food is somewhat Italian influenced, with a lot of pasta dishes. Cocktail program is run by Justin Pike. Specializes in cocktails featuring Amari.

We've gone here twice; so far, haven't seen Justin Pike behind the bar. Devin Espinosa, who also runs the Hatchi Mix series at Breadbar, has been our bartender both times we visited. Based on two visits, I think this is one of the few places I've been that really competes with Varnish in Downtown LA, and if it were a little closer, I'd probably visit a lot more often. A Vieux Carré here was one of the best I've tried. Their "4 Square" is one of the few Campari drinks I can stomach, and is surprisingly balanced considering how much Campari is in it. Devin doesn't have as encyclopedic knowledge of obscure classics as some bartenders, and some of the drinks I've had slant a little towards the sweet side, but overall he makes well balanced drinks which are mixed properly, and the quality was consistent across both of our visits. Though I've only been to each of them once, I give this place a slight edge over both Copa D'Oro and Tar Pit.

I also like the fact that they make a lot of their own drams, bitters, and garnishes. The cocktail cherries are house-made, instead of the Luxardo ones. The place is busy enough, but not too busy.

This is where we are trying to build up a nice set of regional bars and restaurants which are being specifically recommended to traveling cocktailians.

Please check out the list, especially the map, which makes it easy to find place near where you may be traveling.

Your first order of business of course is to look at what bars might be listed in your area, we are getting a decent scattering of locations around the world, but I'm sure that there are a lot more that our members should be aware of.

If your area appears to be left out of the list, take a little time to think about the bars you would almost insist that a visiting cocktailing would need to visit in order to find those great cocktail bars around you. And after familiarizing yourself with the overview, submit a new location. Once submitted it will appear in the summary listing, the map, and there will even be a discussion thread automatically created where people can either ask questions, or discuss their experiences.

You'll also be able to edit the entry later (editing is only available to the person submitting the entry... or me).

One quick note: After you submit a review, go to the associated discussion thread and click the "Email me when somebody responds" link that you'll see near the top right of that page. This will make sure that if somebody comments about this review you'll get an email notification. Eventually I'll get this to be set automatically (like it normally is when you start or reply to a discussion), but for now you need to do this yourself.

And let me know if you have any problems or issues with this feature, there are still a few little problems here or there that I need to work on.

Review: Tirsa Cocktail Bar

Review: Tirsa Cocktail Bar

C/ Rafael De Campalans, 174 BAJO

Barcelona, Barcelona 08903

Spain

(click to view on master map)

phone: 934 312 302

CASUAL - $$$$ - EAT -

This is a fantastic cocktail bar that even though it is a little on the outskirts of the city center it is well worth the trip.
