Hi,

I'm doing a research project for a friend on this drink.  In googling around, I'm seeing two versions of the origin of this recipe - invented by Harry MacElhone at Harry's New York Bar in Paris in the 30s - or- invented by Mr. Polly, Manager of the Berkeley Hotel, London, circa 1921.

There is no 'between the sheets' recipe  in my Mud Puddle books reprint copy of the 1927 'Barflies and Cocktails", is it in ABCs of Mixing Cocktails? Or is there another source for the assertion that Harry invented it?

The earliest recipe I can find in print is in Frank Meier, Artistry of Mixing Drinks, David McKay Company (1936)

And anyone know the source, a source, any source for the Berkeley Hotel assertion?

Thanks

[am I correct that none of Harry's books are in the bibliography on this site?]

The cocktail is from the '30's but I couldn't give you an origin.  I do know that adding 1/2 oz. of honey syrup to the original ingredients is a nice touch!!!
