MODERN - $$$$ - EAT -
Located in Dupont Circle, the Tabard Inn boasts of its "character" since 1920. The fireplace lounge makes a nice cocktail setting for friends or a first date. Of course there is regular dinner service, but you want to sit at the bar. The bar seats about 12, where regulars and business travelers intermingle. Chantal Tseng is the head bartender, and she holds court Wednesdays and Thursdays. Those nights, she has a special menu featuring four cocktails: modern recipes, obscure relics (she favors Trader Vic's), or her own creations. Chantal can also execute the classics without a second thought. The Tabard Inn has a nice balance of excellence behind the bar and an engaging, diverse clientèle sitting at the bar.
