Does any know any good cocktails which incorporate Marie Brizzard's Charleston Follies liquer?

I managed to stumble across some bottles in my local bottle store. They sold it to me for next to nothing, mostly because they had no idea what it was. Ignorance is bliss.

For some ideas, go to CocktailDB and search for recipes by employing passion fruit liqueur. I recommend trying both these search terms (separately): "passion" and "pash".  ("Pash" is a defunct passionfruit liqueur.)

Interesting Gareth.

I just bought a bottle of Charleston last week. I paid something around 3 dollars for it. =)

I sincerely have no clue what I’m going to do with it. I didn´t really appreciate much the taste of the stuff in that bottle. It´s a pretty interesting bottle, I have to say, but the taste.. I don’t know … I can’t help thinking about cleaning products after every sip…

I´ll give it a try later; let me know if you found any cocktails where it worked well for you…

i agree, hence my curiosity as to how anything could work with it. i'm a firm believer in try everything and try and make it work before you throw it down the drain.

What does it taste like? Passion fruit?

This is a tough one to describe for me. Reading the label all they say is “Exotic Fruit Liqueur” and the back label doesn´t help either. They main flavoring component seems to be “Exotic Fruit flavour” (??). 

The smell has notes of passion fruit (the type of smell you would get on a very artificial passion fruit product).

Color is light amber, from caramel colorant E150b.

To the taste you can note some pine notes, citric notes and acidity (from citric acid mentioned on the label, probably) and something else I can only describe as “what you would get for an artificially flavored exotic fruit drink”.

I still haven’t made a cocktail I like with it. Probably I should stop looking at it as an “exotic fruit” liqueur and approach it looking at its “pine” qualities.

Ah! Finally!

I saw this on an order form from Marie Brizard from about 1993 and had know idea what it was, and couldn't find anyone who did either.

Seeing as I have never seen it before, let alone tasted it, I'm not particularly confident recommending a cocktail, but perhaps you could play round with that and the 42below Passionfruit vodka?

I know many great drinks with Charleston, but cant find the bottle here in US. In Europe I could always find it, where did you buy it ?

Charlie Shaker

    * 2 Cl Charleston Follies
    * 2 Cl Aquavit
    * 1 Cl Lime Juice
    * 3 Cl Indian Tonic Water

Blending Instructions:

    * Add aquavite and Charleston Follies and stir it with ice
    * Add lime and tonic water
    * Fresh up with slice of lemon and red cocktail berry

Serving in Cocktail Glass

Sailor Moon recipe


Shake white rum, charleston follies and lemon juice with ice. Strain over ice in an old-fashioned glass. Fill with champagne, garnish with a slice of lemon, and serve.

Sailor Moon cocktail! haha

That recipe doesn't sound attractive to me!

I think you can use that bottle just to play around. I had one looong time ago and I don't really remember the pros and cons, but it might have a good smell. Maybe using it like an enhancer in a homemade syrup or just to spray it in a Tiki cocktail to help with the smell.

Anyway, I think you might have good chances to do an ok tropical cocktail in the blender. I don't think is that that bad, talking about flavor characteristics.
